The most common way to level your character in World of Warcraft is to go questing. But some people quickly get bored with constant dungeon crawling or grinding mobs, but there are other quests you can go on that will not only level your character but expand your horizons in the game itself. Why limit yourself to only one quest type? There’s more than one way to play. Sure there are the kill X amount of mob Y for person Z quests, but there are also quests to find a particular object in enemy lands, search for a specific device or gather certain items.

For those wishing to up the stakes, there’s the escort quest. Think of it as capture the flag, with a treasured character on the line instead. These non-player characters are generally on a quest of their own to reach a particular destination, during which they will need your help as they walk blissfully unaware into waiting mobs and untold danger. While there are numerous benefits to be gained from an escort quest, they’re not to be undertaken lightly.

So before you set off, be sure you -and your character- are up for the challenge. Take any necessary precautions you can foresee, and attend to the smallest cuts and scrapes from your latest adventure. Pets are valuable companions to have -reassert your bond and be sure to keep them happy. There’s no rush to undertake an escort quest; make sure you’ve taken all the necessary steps to prepare for what’s in store. Once you agree to such a quest, there’s no telling where it will lead you, so be sure to tie up all loose ends!

Walk with the NPC you’re escorting as they begin to move. Keep a short lookout as they’re bound to aggro the mobs to make you work for that reward. Sometimes you can hunt down and clear out the mobs before the quest begins for an easy run.

Don’t be alarmed when the object of your quest rushes to meet these mobs. They’ll come back as soon as you’ve taken care of business. Also, keep in mind that there is no quest without the character you’ve ventured to escort; don’t forget to monitor their health!

And because the rewards would not be great if the challenges weren’t greater, escorted characters tend to trigger mobs and guards without warning. So as you diligently scan the horizon for the next mob en route, be wary. Another reason to draw these standard mobs to you when you have the chance. That way you’re less likely to be ambushed by hoards of unruly adversaries at once!

Warlocks and hunters generally have the upper hand in escort quests, along with their trusty pet companions. For those without a pet to bait impending mobs, you might consider placing your strength in numbers by teaming up with other players for your escort quest.
