You can start building your gold reserves from the moment you start playing World of Warcraft, it’s not something that can only be done by more advanced players. Below I will reveal a few golden secrets you can use to get more gold faster.

1. Select Gathering Professions

If you choose a profession such as Jewelmaking, Enchanting, Blacksmithing or Inscription, you will need a lot of time to level these up. You’ll also need a heap of money as these are very expensive to level.

If you choose a profession such as Mining, Skinning or Herbalism, you’ll be able to collect a lot of items just through questing. You can then use these for your profession or sell them in the AH (Auction House) if you prefer.

When Inscription was released with WOTLK, the popularity of Herbalism took off. Basic herbs such as Peacebloom and Earthroot can be sold for anywhere between 10 - 30g per stack depending on your realm.

I recently started a new character and chose Herbalism as one of its professions. I got to 90g before reaching level 10 purely to the fact that I had chosen Herbalism.

2. There are numerous items that you can purchase from sellers to resell.

Some of these types of items are scarce and you’ll need to travel a bit to get them which may not be possible for low level characters. Alternatively you can buy these types of items in the Auction house and the resell them using an Alt. The first aid training book is one example that comes to mind.

I often sell these types of items for up to 9 times the vendor’s price - it’s easy to make a lot of money doing this if you want to.

3. Take up Cooking as soon as you can.

This is not a gold farming tip as such but it is worthwhile knowing. Farming and grinding get much easier if you choose to have Cooking as a Profession. Furthermore you save a lot of money not needing to buy food and water, and you can level the skill up easily by collecting meats during questing.

When you think about gold farming, think about it not only in terms of killing creatures to get gold and new items, think about it from the benefit you can get for your profession. Your profession can make you very rich if you use it in synergy with other aspects of the game.
